Awwwwww...

Never underestimate the power of bleach!

Read on to find out how this blogger's brain did not work properly.

As usual since I was driving back I decided to bring back my dirty laundry with me. On Sunday I decided to do one load, and just put everything into the washing machine. Big mistake as I put my red shirt (which I had to re-dye) into the wash as well. After the load was done, I proceeded to remove the clothes to hang and to my horror, 2 of my shirts now have patches of red on them!! But I was still positive, knowing that bleach should solve the problem, and proceeded to soak the 2 shirts in bleach. After a few hours, as I thought, the patches were gone! So I happily rinsed it once and then put the 2 shirts in the washing machine to wash and spin. After it was done I nearly fainted when I saw my shredded shirts. I was so stunned I stood there for a moment, pondering my next move. Why didn't I just hand wash it?? =_=""" Since there was nothing I could do, I took the shirts out, removed the buttons and threw the shirts away. But not before I took a picture to remind me to use bleach carefully!

Now you know what shredded shirts look like.

Excuse me while I mourn the loss of 2 of my fave shirts.

James May and his tips

I've said before in this magazine that the price of fuel is actually an irrelevance. By the time you've bought a car, insured it, taxed it and put some aside for repairs, the cost of filling it up amounts to little more than a hill of beans. Yes, occasionally the price of petrol goes up a bit, and we all moan about it, but then we continue to pay up and drive on. Same with beer. Same with smokes. Same with stamp duty. None of it really matters in the grand scheme of things.

But I'm now wrong, because all of a sudden, the price of fuel does matter, the sodding stuff is so expensive. Since you're reading this magazine, your car is probably very important to you. And, chances are, you're as depressed as I am by the fact that fuel is suddenly so disproportionately pricey. But don't worry, because I have some great advice for you.

So far, most advice we've had on tackling the fuel price crises has been pretty hopeless. As we demonstrated on the programme a few weeks ago, there's no point chopping in your car for something more frugal, because the amount of money you lose on the sale will far outweigh the savings you make through driving around in a diesel hatchback feeling miserable.

Neither can you realistically change the way you drive, because economical driving is defeatist and boring and unbecoming of anyone who enjoys cars. So it looks as though you've been right royally stuffed on this one, but you haven't. There is an answer. What you need to do is change the way you live.

This thought came to me in, of all places, my kitchen, when I was rooting through its drawers and cupboards looking for something. I came across a device for forming mashed potato into balls, which was popular in the Seventies. I've never used it.

Neither have I used the spirit-fired sauce-warming device, the big flat thing for fish, or the rotisserie attachment for the cooker. I even own a small food mixer, but I can tell by looking at it that the last time it was used was for mixing paint.

'Looking around my home, I can honestly say that, barring food, I need never buy anything again'

So if you're about to set up home or become a student, I would suggest this. All you really need in the kitchen is a medium-sized sharp knife, a big pan, a small pan, a frying pan, a pie dish, a cheese grater, a kettle and a toaster. You will never need the Nigella casserole, the Ken Hom wok or the Gordon Ramsey apron. You definitely do not need the thing for making parmesan shavings. This will probably save you a couple of grand over a lifetime, all of which can be spent on petrol.

I moved on to the wardrobe, where I discovered 1,001 shirts that haven't been worn for a decade. All you really need are two smart shirts, a couple of T-shirts, two pairs of jeans and a suit for weddings and funerals. All the cash you were going to waste at Abercrombie and Fitch can now be diverted to the petrol station.

Same with shoes. You can only wear one pair at a time, so you need a black pair (for the funeral),a brown pair and something floppy for holidays. Put the rest of your shoe budget in the tank, and make the shoes you have last longer. This is the great irony of the current fuel crisis. Here we are begrudging the cost of a mere consumable, but spending far too much money on material things that we don't really need and that are just landfill-in-waiting.

Even the greenies can't argue with this one. Driving around will do less environmental damage than filling the world with junk, all of which has to be manufactured and distributed. And what do you get at the end of it? A trendy table lamp that your grandchildren will take to the dump when you peg it. You could have gone for a nice drive.

The trouble is that this doesn't become clear until middle age, which is where I am now, and which is why I'm trying to warn you. Looking around my home, I can honestly say that, barring food, I need never buy anything again. Anything. Even if I live for another 50 years, I will never wear out all my shoes and shirts. I have too much furniture. There are at least 50 books on the shelf I haven't read, and I am never going to make a coddled egg. I doubt I will even use up all the ballpoint pens in the drawer of my desk.

In fact, I'm beginning to wonder what I'm going to spend my money on. Beer and petrol, by the looks of it.

Back home!

Im back home! Planned to leave at 9am but since I was driving alone I didn't have to worry about being punctual =P So I took my own sweet time and packed my stuff. Mostly dirty laundry (bedsheets etc.), my books (test and FINALS coming soon!) and of course my laptop! Before I could head for Ipoh I had to go to 1U and get something from a friend who helped buy something for my sister. I took around 45 mins to get there! There were alot of cars on the road! And then I wasn't sure where the entrance to the curve is so I went round the place twice before being able to tell my friend where I was! Hmmm...my superb navigating skills have somehow been reduced these few days! At least I wasn't too far off the destination ;) Reached home at around 1pm and I've been doing nothing useful ever since! Gotta clean the car sometime soon!

Driving on the highway is so...sad...why?
1. The road sucks (okok so its not like Germany's Autobahn)
2. There's a speed limit
3. No nice cars on the road to admire
4. Must pay toll
At least there's greenery to see....haha!

Anyway I don't drive that fast on the highway...must drive fuel efficiently! So I usually average around 100km/h...except for the occasional overtaking...which sometimes can be abit too fast =P

Sesat!

In KL? To be honest I think you don't get lost in KL, you just take extra long to get to your destination because you sometimes go round in circles only to find that your destination was "just over there!!" hahaha...okok im just crapping again!

Hmmm...so I drove to KL today (ok, Jalan Raja Chulan to be precise) to meet up with the Uncle (he calls me 'aunty'!! i know la i look old...) whose wife is the previous owner of my Citroen ZX. Left uni at almost 12pm (should have left earlier - class ended 1 hour early!) and then went towards the city center. I thought I could make it without properly analyzing the map cause I'll just follow the road signs. Bad idea. Cause I was correct about 3/4 through, and then I decided maybe I should turn left somewhere and ended up going round Pavilion. Which is SO near my destination. Gah! With so many traffic lights + cars + people all I could think of is: where is this elusive building??!! So after wasting around 30 mins going round and then figuring out the building and how to get to the carpark I reached my destination. Anyway, I was late but I had fun talking to Uncle S (that's his new name!) and his friend M. Most of the time the conversation was about cars. VW cars actually. That's how they got to know each other. All the people who are crazy about VWs get together and go places, chat about their cars and i guess whatever else car enthusiasts do! So there I was listening to car crazy people talk. They're really nice people, I wish I knew more about cars then I can actually contribute to the conversation! At the moment, all I know about cars are from Top Gear and the occasional interesting article found on the web....hmmm...Somewhere in between the word 'boyfriend' was uttered and i was like "whaaa? I don't have one la ok!!" Besides, I'm still young! *cough cough* At the moment I'm just admiring other people's wedding pics! =P Everyone asks that question nowadays...especially the aunties and uncles...sighh...anyway hope to hangout with Uncle S again sometime =)

Water!

I read an article somewhere that said people were much happier those days. Why? They might not have the comforts or technology that we have now, but they were generally happier because they did not have much choice. What brand of soap to buy? No need to think - there's only one brand (or 2 or 3, im just giving an example) But today? With so much advertising and so many choices to choose from, people are stressed. They make a choice, but later they worry on whether they made the right choice. So its so much easier when you don't have a choice right? I mean you can complain but at the end of the day you're happier than if you made a choice and are constantly worried. Am I making any sense here?

Going back for the week!! Woohoo! But I think I hafta catch up on my FYP...hmmm...

Crazy week!

Time flies really fast!! Like whooa! Like...when u thought that spaghetti meal just happened but it actually happened a few days ago! What am I saying?? I dunno! Hahhaha...gone nuts again as usual...anyway when I wanted to blog, the internet became slow...it was just nice before that!

Anyway last Wednesday night we had a Night Walk in FRIM. It was ok, I guess I'm used to more adventurous stuff so it was so-so. There was also drama in the dark in the forest...wahahah! Some of you know what i mean =P The forest canopy is really beautiful! Can only be found in FRIM and Papua New Guinea. Curi some pics from other ppl's blog =P (Cause at night when I tried to take a pic it was all black!) We did learn quite a few things and i guess the guides use the same script with every tour group because the blog (http://al02.blogspot.com/2007/08/frim-and-fireworks.html) i curi the pic from wrote the same stuff we learned! hahaha!

Once you hurt/injure/break something you can never fix it back 100%. It will still hurt, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. What am I talking about? my foot! yeah my stupid left foot has been aching on and off since I sprained it last Christmas Night. Makes me feel so old...when I add that with my backache (I cant stand for too long cause I have a crooked backbone :S)

With Mr. Mike!!

Last Saturday night we went to Stepping Stones Living Center "10th Anniversary & Thanksgiving Dinner". Stepping Stones is a shelter for kids and now they house around 110 kids!! They have really grown and are planning to move to a massive new building in Nilai so donations are welcome! This year for Christmas Night (22 Dec 08) we're gonna have a performance by the kids and we'll be collecting donations for them! So if you wanna donate you can contact me. JD bought a table so 10 of us went to show our support (and makan, of course). It was held at the HGH Convention Center in Sentul, which seems to be the happening place to have functions these days! Some pics with the celebs!

Sien

Last weekend we had CF camp in Penang, so I wasn't here to celebrate Merdeka. Don't even know how it was celebrated anywhere..that's how out of touch with news i was. I still am. I don't bother reading the paper these days cause I dunno how much of it is true anyway. This whole week I was catching up with sleep and doing assignments and reports and trying to study for a test. So I've been pretty busy. So busy in fact that I was in denial.

I dunno what I did or didn't do last week so im sorry if i caused anyone any pain. It must have been a pretty major thing considering I had a new explicit name.

Was supposed to go lowyat then suddenly my car battery died. Sigh. Just my luck I guess...everything's dying here...first my ext HDD, then my car battery....

I don't know why then and I still don't know now.

Sigh.
