Gopeng (23 May 09)

We left for my house in the afternoon, and stopped by Gopeng to visit the museum that opened in April. You can read more here. It’s a shoplot and there are lots of antique stuff there. There’s no entrance fee, but you can donate if you want to :)

A brief stopover at Kellie’s castle before we went to Gopeng: DSC_0844 DSC_0845 DSC_0846 DSC_0849 DSC_0851 Hokkiens rock! As usual, I just simply said smile, and the puppy actually smiled!!! Freaky!!! WZ was there and she can tell you that the puppy actually smiled when I said ‘smile’!!! What’s freakier is that it’s outside a temple…so…hehe…who knows…

Curious Case of Torn Tissue Paper

Yes, there's something going on with the apartment-mate staying in the 4th room. She uses the kitchen sink a lot, even though her room is just next to the bathroom, and after a while there's a trail of bits of tissue paper leading from the kitchen sink to the room. The kitchen sink area is also a little flooded after she uses it. Very curious indeed. Hopefully this mystery of why she does this will be solved. Stay tuned.

Oh, and if you're wondering where I am now, I am back in UNITEN, doing Master in Engineering Management. Same as MBA except for the electives. Didn't wanna do Master in Mechanical Engineering because I figured that for me it will be safer if any experiments I did was up to me and not depending on grants or funds or whatever. Got bored of staying at home and waiting to see if TNB wants to hire me, so it's back to school! At the moment my classes are on every weeknight except Tuesdays, and I'm not working yet so im very free during the day! A little too free, actually! Will see if I can get a part time job nearby (not everyday, maybe alternate days)

So if anyone of you know of a part-time job vacancy around Serdang/Seri Kembangan/Putrajaya/Bangi do let me know ok :) Or if you need crew for any function just lemme know :)

I need fast internet connection here!!!

Raisin Scones

I felt like doing something productive so I googled for raisin scone recipes and found one that looked simple and I already have all the required ingredients. I made a few variations tho, like soaking the raisins in vodka earlier, used milk instead of whipping cream and using grated orange peel instead of lemon. And for the first tryout I halved the recipe, and even so I managed to get alot of scones! Should yield 22 scones…I got about 11..and they look more like big choc chip cookies than raisin scones tho! I guess its because the milk made it watery. But anyway it tastes great!! :D

Taken from epicurious.com:

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) chilled unsalted butter, diced
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
  • 2 teaspoons water

Preheat oven to 400°F. Line 2 baking sheets with foil. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into large bowl. Add butter and rub in with fingertips until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in raisins. Whisk cream, 2 eggs, vanilla and lemon peel in medium bowl to blend. Add egg mixture to flour mixture; stir just until combined. Gather dough into ball and knead lightly. Roll out dough on floured surface to 3/4-inch thickness. Using 2-inch round cookie cutter, cut out scones. Gather scraps; reroll and cut out additional scones. Place scones on prepared baking sheets, spacing apart.

Whisk remaining egg and 2 teaspoons water in small bowl to blend. Brush egg mixture over tops of scones. Bake scones until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Transfer scones to rack and cool slightly. (Can be made 8 hours ahead. Cool completely. Store in airtight container at room temperature.) Serve warm or at room temperature.
