Queen Elizabeth gets iPod from Obamas
Royal couple gives president, first lady signed portrait of themselves
John Stillwell / AP President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are welcomed by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace in London on Wednesday. updated 6:48 p.m. ET April 1, 2009 LONDON - It's not every day the American president's driver is told to move his bulletproof car. But Queen Elizabeth II's handlers made the request Wednesday after President Barack Obama's reinforced Cadillac limousine was found to be blocking the garden entrance driveway at Buckingham Palace. After it was moved, Jaguars carrying Prince Charles and other members of the royal family pulled up for the queen's reception for leaders attending Thursday's G-20 summit. Obama and his wife, Michelle — wearing a black and white dress, pearls and a black coat — were two of the first dignitaries to meet the queen, who wore a salmon-colored dress and her trademark pearls. During their private meeting, President Obama and the first lady gave the queen a personalized iPod with video footage of her 2007 visit to Washington and Virginia. She was also given a rare songbook signed by composer Richard Rodgers. In return the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, gave the Obamas a signed portrait of themselves. Queen Elizabeth has met with 11 of the last 12 U.S. presidents, including a meeting that took place with Harry Truman when she was a princess, according to Buckingham Palace spokesman David Pogson. The only president she did not meet was Lyndon Johnson. His widow later met the queen after the president's death. The queen and her husband entertained the Obamas in her private audience room, which overlooks the palace gardens where thousands of daffodils and other flowers were in bloom. The room, which is part of the queen's private quarters, is frequently used for private meetings with visiting leaders. Recent visitors included the prime ministers of Canada and Australia. 'Her majesty is delightful' They gathered in the palace's picture gallery and were served champagne, wine and canapes of chicken with zucchini on skewers, mini Cornish pasties, smoked quail eggs, foie gras and tiny rolls of duck filled with melon.
Click for related content The queen chatted with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi while French President Nicolas Sarkozy held an animated discussion through an interpreter with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Prince Charles shared a joke with Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva while his wife, Camilla, held a long talk with Michelle Obama. "It was a wonderful visit," Obama shouted to reporters as he and his wife left the palace. "Her majesty is delightful." Several hundred people gathered outside Buckingham Palace and cheered as soon as they saw President Obama. Earlier in the day, Obama used a press conference with Prime Minister Gordon Brown to say how much he and the first lady were looking forward to meeting the queen, praising her as a model of "decency and civility." What's for dinner? Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver was cooking dinner for the G-20 leaders. The main course was slow-roasted Welsh lamb accompanied by wild mushrooms, asparagus and potatoes from Jersey in the English Channel. Vegetarian leaders were being offered potato dumplings and asparagus. Appetizers include baked Scottish salmon with vegetables and goat's cheese from Hertfordshire with roasted shallots. Bakewell tarts and custard is on the menu for dessert. France's Sarkozy, who had hinted he would walk out of the G-20 if leaders didn't agree to concrete plans on tighter financial regulations, was the last to arrive for the dinner. Obama sat next to German Chancellor Angela Merkel — who has joined in Sarkozy's calls — while Chinese President Hu Jintao sat between Brown and Sarkozy.
============================================================ OMG! How cool are the Obamas???? If Apple didn't already have everyone drooling over their stuff, I'd say this is a publicity stunt! Hehe....but look at the selection of songs also....how personal and thoughtful! Oh wow...other's are gonna have a tough time getting the Queen a better present! | ||||||

Poisson d'Avril!
It has become tradition to pull pranks on 1st of April ....
While you're out playing pranks on family and friends on April 1, you might want to surprise them with some history and fun facts about the holiday as well. It might take the sting out of the joke you play that involves setting clocks back and thereby forcing your buddy to miss that important meeting he had in the morning. April Fools Day is not an official holiday but plenty of people observe it by cracking jokes and pulling pranks on loved ones (and not-so-loved ones) throughout the day.
History of the holiday
The most popular theory of when April Fools Day started is that it began in 1582 in France when King Charles IX reformed the Julian calendar and made it Gregorian. This made the new year begin on January 1, instead of April 1, as it always had been prior to the switch. Because cell phones, texts, and e-mails weren't around then, the news of the calendar switch took some time to get across to everyone. As a result, some countryfolk (and a few stubborn ones who resisted the change) were labeled "April fools." They were subsequently used as punchlines in jokes, sent on "fools errands," and subjected to practical jokes. Scottish and Fench settlers brought to the colonies of the US in the 1600s. Thus, a holiday was born.
April Fools Day goes global
Believe it or not, April Fools Day is celebrated in a variety of countries. France calls it Poisson d'Avril, which means April Fish. Children will tape a picture of a fish onto the backs of their friends and yell "Poisson d'Avril." One reason for this could be that the zodiac sign for April is pisces, which is a fish. In Scotland, April Fools Day is celebrated for two days and known as Taily Day. Pranks are typically geared towards the bottom and it's said that the origin of the "kick me" sign can be traced back to Scotland. The U.K. only celebrates April Fools Day in the morning as they believe it is bad luck to play jokes in the afternoon. Fools are known as "gobs" or "gobby" and victims of jokes are called "noodles." Poland celebrates April Fools Day very seriously by not doing anything serious that day. Jokes and hoaxes are played and even the media gets in on the fun. Denmark observes April Fools Day with jokes and pranks, and celebrates again on May 1.
Well known April Fools Day pranks
Everyone has a favorite prank or joke that has been carried out on April Fools Day. Here are a few that have been made famous by their ingenuity.
* Left-handed Whoppers from Burger King: the fast food chain announced they were carrying Whoppers for left-handed people that had condiments dripping from the right side. Yep, people tried to order it. (1998)
* Spaghetti trees: A BBC show ran a segment featuring Swiss people harvesting spaghetti from trees. The segment announced that spaghetti weevils had been eradicted. People called the station wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti tree. (1957)
* Bill Gates has been assassinated: Chinese and South Korean websites claimed that Bill Gates had been killed. The Korean stock market dropped 1.5%. (2003)
* Rickroll - YouTube hyperlinked all of the videos on their front page to the Rickroll.
Good luck on your pranks!

Shopping spree?
Women may be able to blame impulse buys and extravagant shopping on their time of the month, research suggests.
In the 10 days before their periods began women were more likely to go on a spending spree, a study found.
Psychologists believe shopping could be a way for premenstrual women to deal with the negative emotions created by their hormonal changes.
Professor Karen Pine will present her work to a British Psychological Society meeting in Brighton later this week.
She asked 443 women aged 18 to 50 about their spending habits.
Almost two-thirds of the 153 women studied who were in the later stages of their menstrual cycle - known as the luteal phase - admitted they had bought something on an impulse and more than half said they had overspent by more than £25.
A handful of the women said they had overspent by more than £250.
And many felt remorse later.
Professor Pine, of the University of Hertfordshire, said: "Spending was less controlled, more impulsive and more excessive for women in the luteal phase.
"The spending behaviour tends to be a reaction to intense emotions. They are feeling stressed or depressed and are more likely to go shopping to cheer themselves up and using it to regulate their emotions."
Hormonal
She said much of this could be explained by hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle. And the findings were exaggerated in the women with severe PMT.
"We are getting surges and fluctuations in hormones which affect the part of the brain linked to emotions and inhibitory control. So the behaviour we found is not surprising."
Another explanation might be that women are buying items to make themselves feel more attractive - coinciding with the time of ovulation when they are most fertile, typically around 14 days before the start of a period.
Most of the purchases made by the women were for adornment, including jewellery, make-up and high heels.
Professor Pine said: "Other researchers have found there is an ornamental effect around the time of ovulation."
Researchers have found women tend to dress to impress during their fertile days.
Professor Pine, author of the book Sheconomics, said if women were worried about their spending behaviour they might avoid going shopping in the week before their period was due.

Earth Hour
Issit really gonna help the environment?
I don't think so.
All they're doing is just symbolism.
Hope it doesn't affect the power plants because the demand will suddenly drop...but then again maybe most people won't be participating, so the power plants should be fine.
Hmmm....
You know what would save alot of energy?
People staying indoors after its dark, so we wouldn't have to spend so much on lighting up the area and so on.
Arghhhh!! I don't want to study econs anymoreeeeee

Keep Praying!
Keep Praying!
"Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to
search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door
will open for you. Yes, if a person continues asking, that
person will receive. If a person continues looking, that
person will find. And if a person continues knocking, the
door will open for that person."
-- Matthew 7:7-8 (ERV)
KEY THOUGHT:
Ask, look, knock. These actions sound so harmless and so easy. But
behind these words is the intent of Jesus: "Be persistent! Keep asking!
Continue looking! Don't quit knocking!" This is not a cookbook
prescription, but the target attitude we should have in our prayers and
our lives. We must be persistent and faithful. But before making that
persistence our key to acquiring and achieving for ourselves, let's
remember Jesus' example in the model prayer in Matthew 6:9-13: the
focus is on God's will -- his Kingdom and his glory, on our most basic
needs -- daily bread, and on overcoming sin through forgiveness and
deliverance. Jesus is reminding us that if we stay after these, not
only will we get what we ask for, but we will also be changed in the
process!
TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and righteous Father, thank you so much for the many prayers you
have answered. Thank you, dear Father, for answering my prayers to be
more like Jesus. I confess I am still so very far from his perfection,
but when I look at the distance you have brought me in the past, I can
view the future only with excitement knowing that you will lead me on
to become more like him in the future. In Jesus' name, I thank you and
ask for your continued grace. Amen.

How to wash dry cleanable clothes
More from Martha Stewart
If seeing the phrase "Dry Clean" on new garments makes you cringe -- either because of the toxic chemicals most cleaners use, or the prices they charge -- there's hope. Many delicate items labeled this way can safely be washed by hand at home using a gentle detergent. Follow these steps to make your clothes clean and green.

Decode the Care Labels
If a garment can be washed or dry cleaned, manufacturers need only list one method. To prevent mishaps, they'll usually print "Dry Clean." These items can typically be hand washed. "Dry Clean Only," however, means exactly that.
Note the Fabric and Detailing
Simple, solid-color cotton, wool, linen, rayon, and "washable silk" items can generally tolerate hand washing. Let the pros handle anything with bright prints or colors that may bleed, clothing made of traditional silk, or anything with delicate stitching or beading.
Wash Carefully
Fill a clean sink or washbasin with lukewarm water, then add a few drops of detergent, preferably one made for delicates. Add the garment and swish for three to five minutes. Avoid excess agitation, which causes shrinkage. Rinse the item in fresh water, then gently squeeze out the excess water. Do not wring it out, as this can damage the fabric.
Dry Right
Place the item flat on a clean bath towel and reshape. Roll the towel up, pressing the remaining moisture out of the garment as you go. Unroll, transfer to a fresh towel, and repeat. Unroll, and lay the item flat on a drying rack or another clean towel to air dry, flipping it halfway through.

Do not worry!
This First!
"Don't worry and say, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we
drink?' or 'What will we wear?' All the people that don't
know God try to get these things. Don't worry, because your
Father in heaven knows that you need these things. The thing
you should want most is God's kingdom and doing the good
things God wants you to do. Then all these other things you
need will be given to you."
-- Matthew 6:31-33 (ERV)
KEY THOUGHT:
What's most important to you? Why is it important? Jesus emphasizes all
throughout his ministry that three things are of supreme importance:
loving God with all our heart, loving our neighbor, and seeking after
God's Kingdom. If we do those things, everything else will fall into
place; the hand of the Creator will be there helping each thing find
its proper place. He knows what we need. He has a plan for our lives.
He will meet our needs. Does this mean things will be easy or always go
well for us? No. If our hero was crucified on a cross, do you think
we're less vulnerable? But God does assure his Kingdom seekers that we
will ultimately get what we seek; we will share with the King in his
Kingdom in all of his glory. In addition, in seeking after Kingdom
values, we will bless those we love, we will have a redemptive
influence on those around us, and we will have all that we really need
in life.
TODAY'S PRAYER:
O gracious Father, help me keep my eyes focused on your Kingdom, my
heart centered on you, my mind illuminated by your Word, and my spirit
empowered and cleansed by your Spirit. Father, please forgive me when I
am distracted by things that don't really matter. Use your Word, your
Spirit, and your people to help call me back to a proper set of
priorities. Please bless me as I make your Kingdom and your
righteousness my consuming passion. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
